A GoFundMe account has been established for the family of Cleveland Browns’ quarterback and former Gainesville High standout quarterback DeShaun Watson whose home – his boyhood home – was destroyed by fire earlier this week.
Family member Kylah Mize established the GoFundMe account.
“Last night, my sister and her family experienced a devastating tragedy when their home burned down,” Mize says on gofundme.com. “We are so grateful that everyone—two adults and four children, including Makiyah, a high school senior and honor student, and Morgan, an 11-year-old recently chosen for her school’s spelling bee—made it out safely.
“In a matter of moments, they lost everything. The emotional and financial toll has been overwhelming, but we are holding onto hope and the kindness of our community. The funds raised will help them replace essential items, find temporary housing, and provide some comfort and stability for the children as they process this heartbreaking event.
“If you feel moved to help, any donation you’re able to give would mean the world. Every contribution, no matter the size, brings them one step closer to rebuilding their lives. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your prayers, kindness, and support. It truly makes a difference.”
As of early Friday evening, $2,700 of the $10,000 goal had been raised.
The Thorn Drive fire occurred Sunday night.
