GDOT OKs $104M to widen part of Ga. 20 in Cherokee, Forsyth counties

The largest section of the Highway 20 widening project in Forsyth and Cherokee counties is expected to get underway soon, according to the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT). The agency recently awarded C.W. Matthews Contracting Co. Inc. a $104 million contract to widen the road from State Route 369 in Cherokee to Post Road in Forsyth.

This section of the Highway 20 project spans about six miles and will widen the route to three lanes in each direction. Two phases in Cherokee County that stretch from I-575 to Union Hill Road are nearly complete. The Forsyth County phase from Post Road to North Corners Parkway is under construction with a current completion date of summer 2028.

Construction is expected to get underway in the coming months and is slated to be finished in November 2028.
