Forsyth County Schools Supt. Jeff Bearden plans to retire next year.
Bearden told the board of education Tuesday night he will step down Nov. 1 after a 34-year career in education, 19 of them as a superintendent.
“It’s been such a wonderful journey; from tiny little Limestone, Maine on the Canadian border serving 330 students to Forsyth County, Georgia serving more than 55,000 students in one of our state and nation’s largest and most successful school districts,” he said. “I have had several stops along this journey. Without question, this has been my favorite.”
Bearden has led the school system since 2014.
