The latest report from the U.S. Drought Monitor (USDM) shows no letup in the drought’s expanding grip on Georgia, though there were no changes in conditions in our area.
All of northeast Georgia is still considered “extremely dry,” one step away from the worst designation used by the USDM), “exceptionally dry.” But the latter increased its footprint as it continues to inch northward from south Georgia where it has been the dominant drought factor for weeks. It gobbled up another five percent of the state the past seven days.
And after holding steady at 1066.0 several weeks, the level of Lake Lanier receded slightly this past week and sat at 1065.8 Thursday morning.
