HCSO: Fight involving older couple leads to woman’s jailing

Marty E. Talton, 76, of Gainesville, remained in the Hall County Jail without bond Tuesday morning following her arrest over the weekend in a domestic altercation at her home on Autry Spur Road.

Deputies with the Hall County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) responded to Hall County Fire Station #15 just after midnight Saturday to meet with the victim, a 75-year-old man who had lacerations on his face and neck. He said he had sustained the injuries in a fight with Talton at the home he shares with her.

“Additional deputies responded to the residence and spoke with Talton, who confirmed she and the victim had a verbal argument that escalated into a physical fight,” sheriff’s office spokeswoman B.J. Williams said. “The investigation determined the fight had started over spoiled food that had been left in a slow cooker.”

Based on evidence at the scene and statements from both parties, deputies determined Talton was the predominant aggressor. “She was charged with aggravated assault under the Family Violence Act (FVA) for placing her hands around the victim’s neck and attempting to strangle him, sexual battery FVA for grabbing the victim’s genitals and twisting them and battery FVA for scratching the victim and slapping his face,” Williams said.

The victim was taken to the hospital for further medical evaluation.
