Hall County sheriff’s deputies arrested a Gainesville man on Wednesday afternoon for interfering with a school bus, according to the sheriff’s office. Deputies responded to calls about a dispute in progress at approximately 3:15 in the 1300 block of Marlow Drive.
HALL CO. SHERIFF’S OFFICE (HCSO) NARRATIVE:
“According to the initial investigation, a Hall County School District (HCSD) bus driver on his afternoon route made one of his stops. No one was there to meet one of the students. Per HCSD bus procedures, the driver resumed his route with the child still on the bus.
As he continued, he noticed an SUV following the bus. When he made another stop, the male SUV driver parked and approached the bus, saying he wanted to get his child off the bus. The bus driver didn’t know the man. Per procedure, the driver refused and told the man to move away from the bus.
The man again followed the bus in his SUV and approached it on foot at the next stop. He held the bus doors open, arguing about getting the child. The driver radioed for law enforcement assistance, as he closed the doors and again told the man to get away from the bus. The driver completed the remainder of the route and returned to the child’s stop, where her mother met her. The SUV driver, identified as Sonny James Bodie, 38, of Gainesville, was with the mother.
Deputies obtained a warrant and arrested Bodie, who is in a relationship with the student’s mother, for disrupting a public school (misdemeanor). Deputies transported Bodie to the Hall County Jail for booking. He was released on $1,300 bond early Thursday morning…”
