*Some equity policies that had been removed from Decatur schools are back in place. Federal judges put a halt last week to President Trump’s mandate to eliminate diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) policies in public schools. It was just two weeks ago when the school board repealed its policies, but members decided to reinstate them after the judges’ decision. The board chair did express concerns that some of the policies now may cause problems with school officials.
*The FBI is investigating after a federal agent shoots a man and a woman during a north Georgia traffic stop late Tuesday night. Calhoun Police investigators say DEA agents and uniformed police officer were attempting to stop a suspect in an ongoing drug investigation. The police chief says during the attempt the car drove straight toward the officers and the DEA agent shot into it, hitting a man and a woman inside. Due to the nature of the incident, Atlanta News First reports, the FBI is heading up the investigation. Conditions and names of the two people shot are not yet known.
*Two deputy sheriffs in Newton County performed an act kindness during a routine traffic stop when they discovered a woman didn’t have a car seat for her children. Body camera footage captured the moment when deputies helped purchase a car seat for the woman, who was holding a one-year-old in her lap and had another unsecured child in the rear of the car during the stop. The deputies used their own money to buy the car seat at a nearby store and made sure it was properly secured in the woman’s vehicle.
