Data center OK’d; Another inmate death; Church theft; Abandoned child

*Coweta County Commissioners OK’d the controversial Project Sail rezoning Tuesday night in a 3-2 vote. This clears the way for a large-scale data center in West Coweta, rezoning predominantly rural conservation land for industrial use but with of conditions. (NEWNAN TIMES-HERALD)

*A Georgia prison is dealing with its fourth inmate death of the year. The state Department of Corrections confirmed yesterday that a 36-year-old at Hancock State Prison has died, but there’s no word on the cause. He was set to be released in 2028. Three inmates were stabbed at killed at Hancock over a one-month time frame between January and February. 

*The administrator for a now-closed Macon church is facing a round of charges connected to a large theft. Bibb County sheriff’s investigators say half-a-million-dollars was stolen from Riverside United Methodist church between 2022 and 2025. Tiffany Watson was arrested yesterday for computer theft, fraud, money laundering and more. The church reportedly closed in 2025 after years of financial struggle.

*Investigators are looking for the parents of a child that mysteriously showed up at a Union City daycare. Officers say a man dropped off the boy at a location just across from the Union City Police Department Tuesday morning. The man was driving a white Toyota at the time of drop-off. The child is considered to be under a year old.
