With an apparent decision on a proposed data center in South Hall just days away, there have been a couple of developments lately regarding data centers in Georgia.
*Analysts with the Georgia Public Service Commission (GPC) warned recently that Georgia Power customers could see monthly bills jump $20 or more if the PSC allows the utility to complete the power fleet expansion it has proposed to support the growing number data centers proposed for the state. The PSC staff, meanwhile, has recommended that the commission approve only about a third of what Georgia Power is seeking.
*Two data center complexes totaling nearly four million square feet have already been approved this year by the Spalding County Board of Commissioners. Now, according to the Griffin Daily News, a proposal for a third data center with more square feet of building space than the other two combined will soon go before the county planning commission.
Meanwhile, the Hall County Commission is scheduled to consider plans for the South Hall facility when it meets Dec. 11.
