Hall County Sheriff Gerald Couch has relinquished oversight of the sheriff’s office to his chief deputy while he addresses an undisclosed “health issue.”
“Sheriff Couch is dealing with a health issue,” sheriff’s office spokeswoman B.J. Williams emailed Friday afternoon. “Hall County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Kevin Head is handling the agency’s day-to-day operations, while maintaining contact with Sheriff Couch.”

“Elected as Sheriff in 2012, (Couch) is a veteran law enforcement professional. He joined the Hall County Sheriff’s Office in 1981 and served in the ranks of Jailer, Patrol Deputy, Field Training Officer, Investigator, Sergeant and Lieutenant. Before returning to Hall County, (he) served as the Major of the Gainesville Police Department.”
