A $4 million contract has been approved by the state Department of Transportation (GDOT) for the reconstruction of a section of Dawsonville Highway in Gainesville.
The contract calls for the widening and reconstruction of one mile of the road from Ahaluna Drive to Shallowford Road. The project also includes the installation of video detection systems (VDS) to “enhance traffic management,” according to the GDOT announcement. The completion date included in the contract is May 31, 2027.
It is one of a number of resurfacing, rehabilitation, and reconstruction projects across the state included in this latest contract letting by the GDOT Board of Directors. Among them: six miles of widening and reconstruction of Georgia 20 in Forsyth and Cherokee counties from Browns Bridge Road to Post Road. The $104 million project is expected to be finished by December 1, 2028.
