Slowly, but surely the most serious conditions used by the U.S. Drought Monitor (USDM) are squeezing the less serious conditions out of Georgia – something that has already happened in Hall County and the rest of northeast Georgia.
This week’s report shows that “extreme” (Code Red) and “exceptional” (Code Brown) conditions continue to press southward and northward so that now only a few counties from Augusta to Macon to LaGrange and in west central and northwest Georgia remain less severe. The two of them now account for 69 and 22 percent of the state, respectively. The biggest gains were made by the worst condition – Code Brown.
But the level of Lake Lanier continues to hold steady, still at 1066.0 – five feet below normal for this time of year.
