Similar plans by two churches on Gainesville’s northside and a request for a southside convenience store are on the agenda for the July meeting of the Gainesville Planning & Appeals Board (GPAB).
St. Michael’s Catholic Church is requesting a variance to allow an electronic message board (EMB) display for its existing roadside sign. Just a few blocks away, First Presbyterian Church is petitioning for the same for its current sign.
Also, Majors Management LLC is proposing to annex 2.19 acres at the intersection of Athens Highway and Monroe Drive and zone it General Business.
“An existing vacant commercial building will be removed as part of the proposed development,” according to documents on file with the city. “The proposal includes a 3,500-square-foot MAPCO convenience store, fuel canopy with six fueling pumps, and a separate diesel canopy with three diesel pumps.”
And the would-be developers of apartments on Park Street are asking to withdraw their request. It had been tabled earlier by the planning board.
The board meets July 14.
