Banks Co. schools victim of bomb threat

The Banks County School System received a bomb threat Wednesday morning. The sheriff’s office was notified just before noon about the threat which school officials received via email. The message did not identify any one school.

“Out of an abundance of caution, and despite no schools being in session due to lingering winter weather conditions, a coordinated response was initiated,” Sheriff Carlton Speed said.

Several agencies assisted, including bomb detection K-9 units from the Hall County Sheriff’s Office, Habersham County Sheriff’s Office, Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office, Union County Schools’ ‘Police Department, and Roswell Police Department, to conduct a thorough search of all schools in the county. No suspicious devices or items were located.

The investigation remains active and is being conducted by the Banks County Sheriff’s Office in coordination with the Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency.
