Anti-tariff billboards; Record # of applications at GT; More CDC job cuts

*Drivers around Atlanta may be seeing some messages along the road from Canada. Billboards are popping up around the metro area concentrating on tariffs imposed by the White House. The signs send a message that tariffs are a tax at the gas pump and on hardworking Americans. A spokesperson for Global Affairs Canada calls it an educational campaign.

*Georgia Tech is seeing an increase of interest from prospective students. The school saw a record number of applications for this fall with 67-thousand. Around 14-thousand first-year and transfer students are being accepted.

*More job cuts have hit the Atlanta-based CDC. Several workers at the CDC tell the AJC they received termination notices early this morning. Some of the jobs affected include scientists that work in departments dealing with birth defects, STDs, domestic HIV prevention, environmental health, and violence prevention. Other departments receiving reduction in force actions include the U.S. Health and Human Services Department.
