Reporters for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution hit the roads recently, looking for the best diners in Georgia. They came back with a list of 33, which was recently published, and six of them are in our corner of the state.
Out of the six, four are in White County and two in Habersham. They are:
Fender’s Diner, Cornelia (Habersham)
Sautee Trail Cafe, Clarkesville (Habersham)
Corner Grill, Cleveland (White)(Pictured. Courtesy southernbelle.com)
Cottage House Restaurant, Cleveland (White)
Hoochee’s River Basket, Helen (White)
Yonah Burger, Cleveland (White)
So, what makes a good diner? Here’s what pos.toasttab.com says:
Diners are inexpensive restaurants, sometimes open 24/7, that serve homestyle breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Many diners have a charming throwback 1950s feel, as though they’re lost in time. They’re the kind of place where friendly waitstaff pours bottomless coffee and flip sizzling burgers on a large griddle.
