Affordable Care Act enrollment surge; 5 die in NW Ga. fire

*New enrollments for Georgians in the Affordable Care Act are surging this year. Total enrollment statewide is now at one-point-five million, marking an increase compared to one-point-three million last year. More than 200,000 people have enrolled so far this year. The state recently implemented a new computer registration system for ACA shoppers. The deadline to sign up for health insurance coverage through the state system for coverage in 2025 is January 15.  

*A northwest Georgia fire has taken the lives of five people. Two adults and three children died in the fire at a house on Tree Top Lane in Whitfield County early Wednesday morning. Investigators are initially saying that it appears the fire started from an electrical malfunction.
