The GBI is investigating an officer involved shooting in Lumpkin County that occurred last week as sheriff’s deputies were trying to serve a Hall County arrest warrant.
GBI NEWS RELEASE:
“Preliminary information indicates that at about 2:55 a.m., Lumpkin County (Sheriff’s Office) deputies were requested by Hall County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) deputies to serve an outstanding arrest warrant (for probation violation) on Jody Lee Self, age 42, of Cleveland, Georgia. Lumpkin County deputies traveled to a home in the 2100 block of Emory Stephens Road in Lumpkin County, where they were told that Self would be located.
When (LCSO) deputies arrived, they found Self in a SUV outside the home. Self refused to obey verbal commands given by the deputies to get out of the SUV One deputy shot at and hit the SUV while Self was trying to leave the location. Self was arrested in White County, Georgia later that day.
Self was taken to the Lumpkin County Detention Center.
In addition to the outstanding warrant for a probation violation, Self was charged with misdemeanor obstruction of a law enforcement officer.”
(EDITOR’S NOTE: A spokeswoman for (HCSO) says Self was originally arrested on Sept. 23 for simple battery under the Family Violence Act (FVA). “He was granted bond for that charge on Sept. 27 and it appears he left the jail on Sept. 29,” B.J. Williams added.)
