*An Atlanta area park has been closed ’til further notice after mosquitoes there were found to be carrying West Nile Virus. The City of South Fulton announced the closing of Old National Park Tuesday.
*A company is suing DeKalb County for $30 million over land for a data center. Shadowbox Studios claims the county’s planning department indicated their property on Moreland Avenue could be used for this purpose, despite it not being zoned that way. The county has imposed a moratorium on data centers.
*A shooting involving a Bartow County sheriff’s deputy began at a McDonald’s drive-thru Tuesday morning and ended at a motel. Deputies responded to reports of a man threatening an employee. The situation escalated to the Grassdale Suites Motel, where shots were fired, striking a patrol vehicle. The deputy was unharmed, and the suspect’s condition is unknown.
*Crews are seeing success in traps aimed at netting an invasive Asian hornet that’s killing vital pollinators. The Georgia Department of Agriculture has already captured over 200 yellow-legged hornet queens, primarily around Savannah and coastal counties.
*A 41-year-old man from Douglasville was convicted by a federal jury for his involvement in a scam that laundered $2.7 million from elderly victims. Babajide Adesayo was found guilty of conspiracy to commit money laundering and transactional money laundering. Atlanta News First reports that Adesayo was part of an international network that tricked elderly victims into sending money to accounts owned by a co-defendant in Nigeria, and he continued to launder money even after his arrest. Adesayo is awaiting sentencing.
