*Former Georgia congressman and former TV star Ben Jones has died. For six years ending 1985, Jones was “Cooter” Davenport on the hit program The Dukes of Hazzard. Since leaving office in 1993 he had operated Dukes of Hazard memorabilia stores in Tennessee and Virginia. While in Congress, he represented parts of west Georgia. Jones died Sunday in Luray, Virginia, at the age of 84.
*A former Richmond Hill Middle School teacher once accused of “pleasuring himself” behind his desk is now in jail in Bryan County on a child molestation charge. Rory Mooney resigned his teaching job in November in lieu of termination.
*Some parents in the Muscogee County School District are raising concerns after learning the district will not provide transportation for children with special needs who attend private programs after school. They say they had been told before the start of the school year that transportation would not be a problem. WTVM quotes school board chair Pat Hugley-Green said the issue stems from a shortage of bus drivers.
