7:30 P.M. SUNDAY UPDATE:
Two people were critically injured when a small plane crashed in Dawson County about noon Sunday.
The county’s Emergency Management Agency (EMA) director saidPer EMA Director one person was outside the aircraft when rescuers reached the crash site, while the second was trapped in the wreckage.
Crews immediately began providing care to the victim who was outside the aircraft, while additional responders worked to free the one who was trapped. One was taken by ground ambulance to a hospital, while the second was taken by air ambulance.
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is coordinating with the FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) to gather information about the crash. The plane was a Piper PA-32-300. Preliminary information that it crashed into trees northeast of Elliot Field Airport, a private airstrip on Mildred Elliott Road.

The Dawson County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) said in a social media posting that the crash occurred about noon in a wooded area near Georgia Highway 183.
