State Supreme Court upholds verdict, sentence in Gville murder

The state Supreme Court has upheld the murder conviction and life-without-parole sentence given a Gainesville man in connection with a murder at the local Motel 6 two years ago.

The high court Tuesday unanimously rejected Corey Maurice Rucker’s appeal on several grounds including that Hall County Superior Court failed to correct false or misleading testimony, was wrong to exclude evidence the victim, Destyn Alexander, routinely carried a weapon, and that Rucker had received ineffective counsel.

Rucker, who 47 at the t time, was convicted of shooting and killing Alexander, 34, who was from Braselton, and then fleeing to DeKalb County where he was arrested the next day.
