HALL CO. SHERIFF’S OFFICE FACEBOOK POSTING:
“In the last 24 hours, we have received multiple phone calls about a phone scam where the caller is 𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐨𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐡𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐧𝐮𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐒𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐡 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐭. The caller identifies himself using the name of an HCSO command staff officer (except he’s using the wrong rank), tells the potential victim they’ve missed jury duty and then demands payment to avoid prosecution. He either wants payment via Venmo or wants a cash delivery.
As we’ve mentioned dozens of times, 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐢𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐰𝐞 𝐝𝐨 𝐛𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬! The Hall County Sheriff’s Office never asks for money, especially over the phone. We’ll never ask you to turn over cash to someone who comes to your door. If you get a call like this, 𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠 𝐮𝐩! Unfortunately, this scam is just one of many we’re seeing in the community right now.”
