HCSO: Phone scam

HALL CO. SHERIFF’S OFFICE FACEBOOK POSTING:

“In the last 24 hours, we have received multiple phone calls about a phone scam where the caller is ๐ฌ๐ฉ๐จ๐จ๐Ÿ๐ข๐ง๐  ๐ญ๐ก๐ž ๐ฉ๐ก๐จ๐ง๐ž ๐ง๐ฎ๐ฆ๐›๐ž๐ซ ๐Ÿ๐ซ๐จ๐ฆ ๐จ๐ฎ๐ซ ๐’๐จ๐ฎ๐ญ๐ก ๐๐ซ๐ž๐œ๐ข๐ง๐œ๐ญ. The caller identifies himself using the name of an HCSO command staff officer (except he’s using the wrong rank), tells the potential victim they’ve missed jury duty and then demands payment to avoid prosecution. He either wants payment via Venmo or wants a cash delivery.

As we’ve mentioned dozens of times, The Hall County Sheriff’s Office never asks for money, especially over the phone. We’ll never ask you to turn over cash to someone who comes to your door. If you get a call like this, ๐ก๐š๐ง๐  ๐ฎ๐ฉ! Unfortunately, this scam is just one of many we’re seeing in the community right now.”
