*An 18-year-old driver, Joseph Odeh, is facing several charges after a stolen vehicle fleeing in DeKalb County crashed. Fox 5 Atlanta reports that the incident happened when officers attempted a traffic stop on the stolen vehicle. The car lost control, struck two pedestrians, and hit a tree, resulting in the death of 56-year-old woman and serious injuries to a 14-year-old boy. Odeh and a juvenile passenger attempted to flee but were apprehended and hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.
*The daughter of the late Georgia U.S. Rep. David Scott will run for his seat in Congress. Marcye Scott confirming she’ll run for her father’s seat during his funeral Saturday. The special election to fill Scott’s 13th District seat is July 28. The Democrat served more than 23 years in the U-S House before his death April 22 at the age of 80.
*A then-Emory University professor who wrote “Good riddance” on a friend’s Facebook page after Charlie Kirk was assassinated last September and was fired has sued her former employer. The AJC reports Anna Kenney is suing for breach of contract and claiming she and Emory are victims of “jawboning,” defined as a governmental bullying that chills free speech. But an Emory spokeswoman says the university stands by its action and “will defend this matter vigorously.”
