Police chase ends in death; Ga. a leading state for ICE arrests; Charges upgraded in death of 10-year-old

*A Savannah police chase ended recently in death for an innocent motorist and his passenger. A Savannah rideshare driver and passenger died when their vehicle was hit by the one running from police. Investigators say an SUV hit their car after running through a red light at Capital Street and Pennsylvania Avenue. The driver was arrested for murder, vehicular homicide, and DUI.  

*The AJC reports ICE has arrested nearly 14,000 people in Georgia so far this year. The state is fifth in the country behind Texas, Florida, California, and New York in the number of such arrests. That’s a “large” increase over 2025, according to the report, and amounts to an average of 41 per day.

*An Augusta woman is now facing a murder charge in the death of one of her children. The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office says charges against Deasia Williams were upgraded over the weekend from second-degree murder to murder in the death of 10-year-old De’Angelo Roberson who died on Friday. Investigators say he was shot inside of a car while his mother went shopping inside a service station. Two other young children were in the car at the time, and one found the gun in Williams’ purse and shot and killed the 10-year-old, investigators said.
