Is a Ga. town imploding?; Potential co. comm. candidate toting a lot of baggage; Don’t let the bedbugs bite

*A state lawmaker has concerns about a west Georgia town and its financial struggles.  Sen. Jason Anavitarte says he is concerned that Hiram may run out of money this year, potentially leading to the dissolution of the city’s government. Channel Two reports the city’s officials have urged residents to contact their state legislators about the proposed dissolution. The city faces financial consequences if the government is dissolved, with taxes potentially shifting to other governments and resulting in higher costs for residents. Anavitarte has emphasized the need for the city to address its budget deficits and create a new spending plan to avoid dissolution. 

*Tiffany Henyard gained national attention as Mayor of Dolton, Illinios and is being investigated by the FBI for alleged financial mismanagement. Henyard lost in the Democrat primaries in Illinois and is now running for a seat on the Fulton County Commission after moving to Atlanta. Henyard lists her occupation as a business owner and is running as a Republican to replace Marvin Arrington, Jr. Henyard often labeled herself as ‘Supermayor” while in office in Illinois.

*Bedbug infestations linked to travel are on the rise in several Southern states, with Georgia ranking sixth nationwide for service requests. The ranking is from a recent report from Terminix. Travel expert Lee Abbamonte warns that budget-friendly accommodations frequented by younger tourists are more likely to have bedbugs. He tells Fox5 Atlanta these pests are commonly found in hotel rooms and short-term rentals, hiding in dark cracks and crevices near where people sleep. Abbamonte encourages travelers to inspect luggage and clothing after trips and use high heat to eliminate bedbugs before they spread inside the home.
