Cobb Co. DA sues county; A Macon casino?; A Columbus data center?; UGA, KSU in the news

*Cobb County’s District Attorney is suing the county for suspending her pension when she took office last year. The lawsuit claims that the county owes Sonya Allen money and is accusing Cobb County of breaking the law. Allen is fighting for both her pension and a supplemental payment in addition to her state salary. WSB-TV reports that all DAs in the state are paid the same salary by the state, and efforts are being made to increase state pay for them.

*A deal is underway that could bring a casino to Macon. WMAZ-TV reports the Macon-Bibb Urban Development Authority approved a $20-million option last week with a casino company targeting the old JC Penney building at Macon Mall. The land would be cleared for a new casino development if legislators pass a referendum and voters approve it.  
 
*A proposed data center in Columbus has the potential to hire nearly 200 employees. WTVM-TV says the county’s development authority is working with a firm interested in investing more than five-billion-dollars for a privately developed site.  

*The University of Georgia School of Medicine received preliminary accreditation paving the way for the inaugural class in fall 2026. The school will be located on the Health Sciences Campus in Athens and will be supported by a $100 million medical education and research facility. WSAV reports the Accreditation is essential for graduates to be eligible for the United States Medical Licensing Examination and residency programs.  
 
*Kennesaw State University is marking a milestone for the state of Georgia. The university will be the first in the state to offer a degree in artificial intelligence. KSU announced it will begin offering a new Bachelor of Science in AI this fall in both the undergrad and grad levels.
