*A Mexican national detainee being held by ICE has died in Clayton County. A spokesperson with Atlanta’s Consulate General of Mexico says Heber Sánchez was being held at the Robert A. Deyton Detention Facility Wednesday when he passed away. Sánchez’s remains will be sent back to Mexico. Authorities continue to investigate.
*Meanwhile, the Gwinnett County Association of Educators (GCAE) is asking Sheriff Keybo Taylor to stop cooperating with ICE, citing increased absenteeism in the county’s schools and fear among many students since ICE operations began across the country. But Taylor tells WSB-TV he won’t do it, citing a state law that requires local law enforcement cooperation with the federal officers. Taylor adds that he’s not a fan of the law, but it is the law.
*A Washington State Prison detainee is dead. Washington County Coroner Mark Hodges says Dajhmere Hall was part of the riot last weekend in which three people died, but it’s unclear if his injuries were related. No other information has been released.
*Former DeKalb County Schools superintendent is facing felony child assault and strangulation related charges Saturday. School officials say Dr. Devon Horton charges are unrelated to the school district. He’s also facing fraud charges in Illinois from his last school district.
