*Fulton County’s clerk of courts is asking a federal judge to toss the Trump administration’s bid to force her to hand over 2020 election ballots. She argues that the government sought the records under the wrong law and in the wrong venue.
*Georgia lawmakers are mulling over a plan that would eliminate state income taxes for most residents. The AJC reports a tax policy committee is recommending a proposal this week to cut state taxes for individual workers making up to 50-thousand-dollars, and up to 100-thousand-dollars for married couples filing jointly. The report claims it would not raise sales tax, but would instead rely on fiscal adjustments and economic growth.
*Georgia’s unemployment rate for November 2025 was 3.5%, up slightly from a revised 3.4% in September. November’s unemployment rate remained 1.1 percentage points below the national unemployment rate. One year ago, Georgia’s unemployment rate was 3.6%. October 2025 data is unavailable due to a lapse in federal appropriations related to the federal government shutdown.
*Congressman Mac Collins, a Republican candidate for Senate, is the focus of a House Ethics Committee investigation into whether he misused official government funds, primarily to benefit his top aide, the AJC reported Tuesday. A report from the Office of Congressional Conduct alleges that former chief of staff Brandon Phillips may have collected his government salary while working on campaign activity and that Phillips may have paid his girlfriend for work that was never done. A spokesman for Collins he will cooperate with the Ethics Committee’s investigation and believes he will be cleared of any wrongdoing.
