There was a new twist Wednesday to the ongoing story revolving around the Gainesville High and Brunswick High football teams and the Georgia High School Association (GHSA). Brunswick wants some relief from the penalties it was assessed by the GHSA following the on-field fight between the schools’ football players.
“I have had multiple conversations with the Georgia High School Association this afternoon regarding a revised resolution to the incident that occurred at Glynn County Stadium between Gainesville High School and Brunswick High School,” Brunswick athletics director Steve Waters said Wednesday. “I anticipate continuing those discussions over the next 24-48 hours. As soon as all information is finalized, I will release an official statement through the Glynn County School System and to all local media outlets.”
This move follows a decision by the GHSA earlier this week to allow Gainesville to go ahead with its next playoff game and many of the suspended players have been cleared to participate.
Forty-one of Brunswick’s players were suspended, Brunswick was fined $5,000, and the football team barred from next year’s football playoffs.
In another development Wednesday, the committee overturned the 30 suspensions of Gainesville High players.
