A 50-year-old Gainesville man remained in the Hall County Jail early Tuesday following his arrest over the weekend on several charges growing out of attempts by sheriff’s deputies to arrest him for disrupting traffic on Atlanta Highway among other things.
HCSO NARRATIVE:
“A patrol deputy with the Hall County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) responded to a location on Atlanta Highway in the area of 1st Street in the Chicopee community after Hall County Dispatch fielded phone calls about a man walking onto porches and throwing random items. The deputy observed the man, later identified as (Thomas Eugene Kidd) running from one side of Atlanta Highway to the other; at one point Mr. Kidd stopped in the middle of the roadway, impeding the flow of traffic.
The deputy exited her patrol vehicle and ordered Mr. Kidd to stop, but he fled from her on foot, eventually stopping in a nearby parking lot. The deputy detected signs of impairment and attempted to handcuff Mr. Kidd, but he resisted, pulling away from her. Officers from the Oakwood Police Department arrived and assisted with detaining Mr. Kidd.
Further investigation revealed that Mr. Kidd had damaged the windshield of an SUV in the neighborhood and stolen a pair of pliers from the vehicle owner. He also damaged the door of an outdoor shed at the same address where the vehicle was damaged.
As a result, Mr. Kidd was charged with the following misdemeanor offenses:
· Pedestrian under the influence of alcohol
· Pedestrian in roadway
· Obstruction/resisting arrest
· Criminal trespass – 2 counts (one for damage to the windshield, one for damage to the shed)
· Theft by taking – less than $1,500
Mr. Kidd remains in jail on a bond of $4,450.”
