*Details remain sketchy this morning, but the sheriff’s office reports no injuries in that accident on Browns Bridge Road yesterday at Keith Bridge Road just west of McEver. The accident brought down powerlines and a power pole and happened about noon. It was after 5:00 when deputies reported that the road had reopened.
*Day 2 of qualifying for the Nov. 3 special city council election in Flowery Branch ended Tuesday with no additional candidates tossing their hats into the ring. Monday’s first day of qualifying, as we reported Monday, ended with former mayor Ed Asbridge and Charles Thompson signing up. Today is the final day for candidates to qualify.
*Hall County officials announced Tuesday that Director of Development Services (DDS) Kristie Turner has submitted her resignation, effective immediately. Turner had held the post for just over a year and had been employed by the county for more than two years. “During her time with Hall County, Kristie has contributed to several initiatives, including playing a pivotal role in the Comprehensive Plan and Unified Development Code processes,” Interim Hall County Administrator John Gentry said. No reason was given for her resignation.
*The skies may be crystal clear early this afternoon when a solar eclipse occurs but don’t count on seeing it. “Zero visibility in Georgia; reserved mostly for northern/northeastern U.S. states viewing a tiny partial phase, while totality occurs in Europe and the Arctic,” is the way one source, theskylive.com, puts it. The next total solar eclipse in Georgia won’t occur until May 11, 2078.
