*Georgia’s individual income tax collections are still looking good. The state says it collected three-point-nine-billion dollars in the first quarter of fiscal year 2026. That represents a nearly two-percent rise from the same time last year.
*The federal government shutdown, now in its second week, has impacted various federally funded initiatives. Georgia Congressman Austin Scott says more than 3,800 civilian workers at Robins Air Force Base have already been furloughed. The Atlanta Voice reports that 8,700 CDC employees have been furloughed. The shutdown has affected popular tourist attractions like the King Center in Atlanta, which remains closed.
*Two fraternities at Georgia College and State University in Milledgeville are being investigating for alleged hazing. Milledgeville Police are gathering details surrounding potential alcohol violations and hazing concerns with Kappa Alpha Order and Kappa Sigma.
*Research at Emory University could lead to a breakthrough in Alzheimer’s research. One doctor told FOX5 that they’re studying changes in the blood that could help lead to early detection of the disease. Around two-thousand people are donating blood to the Emory researchers for testing.
