NWS: Too soon to say…

A tropical wave now in the Atlantic Ocean may develop into a tropical depression by late Friday or over the weekend and could bring impacts to the western Carolinas and northeast Georgia by early next week, forecasters with the National Weather Service (NWS) said Thursday.

“The potential storm track and intensity are highly uncertain so it’s still too early to know the exact impacts, if any. However, if the storm track were to curve towards the western Carolinas and northeast Georgia, then heavy rainfall could be a concern.”

The proximity and interaction between Hurricane Humberto and the tropical wave will lead to two possible scenarios:

1) If the tropical wave ends up faster and/or stronger then a landfall in the Southeast U.S is more likely.

2) If the tropical wave ends up slower and/or weaker then it’s interaction with Humberto could cause it to turn offshore.
