Dawsonville Culver’s fined for violating child labor laws

The owner of two north Georgia fast food restaurants, including one in Dawsonville, is paying a fine for violating child labor laws.

The U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) reports that 14- and 15-year-old employees were allowed to work at Culver’s in Johns Creek and Dawsonville past the allowed time of 7:00 p.m., according to Atlanta News First (ANF) and Georgia News Network.

DOL also says there were three employees under 16 who worked the manual fryer, which is deemed a hazardous job.

The owner told WSB-TV that the employees would only stay a few minutes after while waiting on rides. Regardless, he says he’ll be paying the fine.

Culver’s responded by saying it is committed to a “culture of care” in its restaurants and requires its franchisees to follow labor laws. A statement goes on to say that in this case the franchisee “took responsibility and swiftly” and successfully corrected all conditions outlined by the labor department.
