Drought creeping back into NE Ga.

Drought conditions in Georgia are a bit worse this week than they were a week ago, according to the U.S. Drought Monitor (USDM).

Last week, 95 percent of the state – and all of northeast Georgia – were drought-free compared to 90 percent this week. In our area, a portion of Dawson County is now suffering from drought conditions as a pocket of drought in northwest Georgia spreads eastward.

And based on the latest projections from the weather service, there’s a chance for additional growth in the drought at least through the middle of the month. An advisory issued Saturday says near-to-below normal rainfall is expected in Georgia and the rest of the Southeast through at least the 15th of the month.
