Gainesville Police have one suspect in custody and continue to look for a second in connection with last week’s shooting death of James Edward McDaniel, an innocent bystander who was struck and killed by gunfire in the parking lot of Walmart on Shallowford Road.
According to mid-day Sunday news release, investigators determined that two groups of males were involved in a confrontation inside the store that escalated and spilled into the parking lot. During the ensuing confrontation, Kamari Nehemiah Tilmuth and Erron Lamar Dorsey allegedly opened fire on some in the group. The 81-year-old McDaniel was leaving the store on a motorized shopping cart at the opposite end of the parking lot when he was shot.
Tilmuth, 18, of Gainesville, was arrested early Sunday morning by the Hall County SWAT Team during the execution of a search warrant. He has been charged with Felony Murder, four counts of Aggravated Assault, and Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Crime.
Dorsey, 17, also from Gainesville, remains at large and faces the same charges.
Anyone with information regarding Dorsey’s whereabouts or this incident is urged to contact law enforcement through the Gainesville Police Department’s tip line at 770-533-5873 or submit information through the online tip portal at www.gainesville.org, and do not attempt to approach or try to apprehend him.
