*National Guard troops from Georgia could soon be deployed as part of a nationwide effort to support federal immigration enforcement. That’s according to a WSB-TV report which says up to 1,700 troops from several states could be mobilized to assist ICE. Gov. Kemp’s office issued a statement after the story broke over the weekend, saying, in part, “The governor remains in active communication with the Trump administration on how to best support their work securing our nation’s border and safeguarding its citizens.”
*Former Georgia Lieutenant Governor Geoff Duncan, a Republican turned Democrat, is joining the field of Democratic candidates for governor. Democratic candidates already include former Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms, plus lawmakers Jason Esteves and Derick Jackson. Republicans include Attorney General Chris Carr and Lieutenant Governor Burt Jones.
*One of the University of Georgia’s oldest fraternities is under review. The school has placed all new member activity for Sigma Chi on hold after receiving a third-party complaint. UGA officials say it’s standard protocol while a review is underway by Greek Life and Student Affairs.
