*Gwinnett County Public Schools spokesperson Bernard Watson says a Meadowcreek elementary student is facing criminal charges after shooting into and breaking a school toilet. Officials say the student brought the gun from home. No injuries were reported.
*Savannah City Council has voted 5-4 to change the degree mark for when horse-drawn carriages in the city must cease operations. Beginning in 2026, when temps reach 85 degrees, down from 95 degrees, carriages will not be allowed to operate in an effort to protect the horses from heat. The city’s two carriage tour operators have voiced their opposition to the new measure saying they would lose out on hundreds of thousands of dollars in revenue. The council also voted to lower the heat threshold to 92 degrees for the remainder of the year.
*The children’s area of the Cordele-Crisp Carnegie Library has been closed due to a lingering bat infestation. The library says a strong smell had overpowered areas of the library and had to be shutdown. Employees of the library tell WALB the smell is related to bat urine which was being heated by the strong summer sun. The city of Cordele says a company has been contracted to remove any lingering bats and remove and replace old insulation.
