*Access to in vitro fertilization (IV) in Georgia is being protected by a new law. Governor Brian Kemp signed a bill yesterday that safeguards the IVF procedure thanks to a bipartisan effort. The ruling came in response to an Alabama Supreme Court ruling last year that declared frozen embryos were children, which raised questions over unused embryos. The AJC says over two-thousand children in Georgia were born through the IVF procedure in 2021.
*A former bookkeeper for a south Georgia church is heading to prison. The U.S. District Attorney’s office says the government gave Judith Chavis more than 170-thousand-dollars in economic disaster loans, but the Glory Church of Alapaha never signed off on it. She ended up using the money for travel and personal purchases. A judge sentenced Chavis to just under two-years in prison and restitution.
