Marietta school security; Drivers license changes proposed; Ga. congressman’s ‘annex Greenland’ idea; Cocoa-Cola & tariffs

*Marietta’s school system is going to use artificial intelligence in its security. The school board decided Tuesday night to take advantage of a surveillance system from the Alliance Technology Group. The system is able to detect firearms on camera security feeds. Notifications are sent out through texts.  

*Work is underway to expand rules around driver’s licenses in Georgia. Republican Houston Gaines introduced a bill Tuesday that would make it possible for drivers to access their licenses electronically, if a physical copy isn’t available. Drivers will still face a ten dollar fine in that case. Digital options were first launched by the Department of Driver Services two-years ago, but they’ve really only been used at TSA checkpoints.  
 
*A Georgia Congressman is trying to push forward U.S. efforts to acquire Greenland as its own. Republican Buddy Carter introduced legislation this week that authorizes President Trump to negotiate a deal and to rename the country as Red, White and Blueland. In response, a petition was circulating for Greenland-owner Denmark to purchase California.

*Atlanta-based Coca-Cola will shift to using more plastic bottles if new aluminum tariffs kick in next month. CEO James Quincey announced the move on Tuesday’s company earnings conference call. He cited “ensuring affordability” as a primary reason if aluminum cans become more expensive. President Trump raised tariffs on all aluminum and steel imports to 25 percent starting next month. Quincey noted packaging is only a “small component” of Coca-Cola’s total cost structure.
