NWS: Up to 4 inches of snow possible in Gainesville area

The Gainesville area could get up to four inches of snow later this week and icing up to a tenth of an inch, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) Winter Storm Watch that was issued early Wednesday. It is in effect for Friday morning through Saturday morning.

Included in the watch area are all of north Georgia and parts of central Georgia along and north of a line from Elberton to LaGrange.

Three to six inches of snow and sleet are possible "with locally higher amounts" in the more mountainous parts of the state.

The weather service says motorists should plan on slippery road conditions "with travel likely becoming difficult.  

Forecasters say you should monitor the latest forecasts for updates.

Gov. Brian Kemp announced Tuesday that state DOT road crews will begin treating roads with a mixture of salt and water starting Thursday.
