Cumming to Hall Co. gas pipeline project entering next phase

Clearing and grading in Lumpkin County for the Cumming to Hall County natural gas pipeline has been completed as of mid-October, and the actual pipeline installation will soon be underway, according to Lumpkin County officials.

In a recent Facebook posting, they say that because most of the work is happening “in the company’s easement” that runs cross country in the southern part of the Lumpkin County, the project will be most visible to residents at road crossings. These include:

• Auraria Road

• Burnt Stand Road (pictured)

• GA 400

• 7 Mile Hill Road

• Martins Ford Road

“Residents may notice elevated markers and gravel entrances at the crossing locations and may also see some of the pipe within the easement before it is welded and lowered into the trench,” the post continues. “Contractor Precision Pipeline LLC will bore under roadways to minimize traffic impacts during installation. They will start at Auraria Road and plan to move in an easterly direction through the county.”

Directional drilling will be used to install pipe under GA 400 and the Chestatee River, but crews may be working in several locations at the same time.

The project is needed in order to meet Atlanta Gas Light customers’ need for natural gas and its obligation to provide enough to serve them on the coldest days of the year, the message continues. “Several north Georgia counties will undergo system improvements to ensure that those relying on natural gas have it when they need it most. The final phase will be installed in Dawson, Lumpkin and Hall counties with completion by Spring 2025.”
