Gville man arrested on 15 charges, 11 of them drug-related

A Gainesville man remained in jail Tuesday following his arrest over the weekend on 15 charges, eleven of them drug-related.

It all began early Sunday on Athens Street, the Hall County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) says, when deputies were responding to an unrelated call.

HCSO NARRATIVE:

“Hall County Sheriff’s Office deputies responding to a burglary call on Black Drive spotted a man, matching the clothing description of the suspect, walking from Black Drive and into a gas station on Athens Street.

Deputies went into the store and attempted to speak with the man, later identified as Spencer Travontey Porter, 37, of Gainesville. Porter was uncooperative with deputies, and they detained him.

As deputies placed handcuffs on Porter, he resisted by physically trying to pull away from them, at which point they placed him under arrest for obstruction and secured him in a patrol vehicle. Deputies returned to the store to retrieve a bag Porter had left inside. They performed a quick inventory and found a stolen handgun inside.

While deputies were transporting Porter to the Hall County Jail, he kicked the door of the patrol vehicle, bending it. During a search of his bag for contraband at the jail, deputies located several illegal drugs (amounts approximate).

  • Cocaine – 3 grams
  • Methamphetamine – 13 grams
  • Crack cocaine – 9 grams
  • Synthetic marijuana – 13 grams
  • Hydrocodone – 6 pills
  • Marijuana – 29 grams

Deputies also found scales and cash in the bag. Porter is charged with the following:

  • Possession of synthetic cannabinoid with intent to distribute (felony)
  • Possession methamphetamine with intent to distribute (felony)
  • Possession of cocaine with intent to distribute (felony)
  • Possession of marijuana with intent to distribute (felony)

  • Interference with government property (felony)
  • Theft by receiving (felony)
  • Possession of a firearm during commission of a crime (felony)
  • Obstruction of an officer (misdemeanor)

Porter was booked into jail where he remains held without bond. He was not implicated in the burglary on Black Drive.”
