A Jackson County man considered a “force” in country music in Georgia, Jerry Farmer, has died.
Farmer, who died Friday at the age of 82, will be buried Thursday following a funeral on Wednesday.
He ran a “clean and honorable” rock n’ roll teen club in Athens in the mid-60s, according to his obituary, and owned and operated the J & J Entertainment Corporation, more commonly known as the J & J Center, located in his native Athens, for nearly three decades. He also owned the J & J Flea Market in Athens for nearly three decades.
Farmer who was once coined the “Country Music Kingpin” has tirelessly contributed to the success of countless Nashville stars that he brought to Athens for shows at his club. “He was a significant driving force” in the promotion of their careers,” his obit says.
Three years ago, Gov. Brian Kempt proclaimed August 28 “Jerry Farmer Day.”
