UPDATE: Still no ID on body found last week

UPDATE 4:00 A.M. FRIDAY:

The badly decomposed body found last week off Aviation Boulevard in Gainesville remained unidentified as late as Thursday, according to a spokeswoman for the Hall County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO).

“Because of the decomposition of the body, it’s going to take an extended amount of time to get all of that info from the medical examiner,” B.J. Williams said.

EARLIER STORY. POSTED AUG. 21:

An investigation is underway after a decomposed body was discovered down a steep embankment in the 1000 block of Aviation Boulevard on Tuesday.

While taking a walk on company property around 1:30 p.m., an employee of Mar-Jac Poultry saw the body and reported it to supervisors, who in turn called 911, Hall County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) spokeswoman B.J. Williams said.

“Investigators with the Hall County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) Criminal Investigations Bureau (CIB) arrived, and with the assistance of Hall County Fire Rescue, rappelled to the bottom of the embankment to recover the body, which is believed to be that of an adult female,” Williams added. “The body was located in a rocky, brushed-filled area alongside a trail that leads to a homeless camp between Mar-Jac and the railroad tracks. It appeared the body had been in the area for several days.”

At this time, there is no indication of foul play, and the body has been taken to the Dekalb County Medical Examiner’s Office for autopsy and positive identification.
