HCSO: 70-year-old facing drug distribution, other charges

A 70-year-old Gainesville man was arrested Tuesday on a series of drug charges, including distribution, stemming from a raid on his home last month.

HCSO NARRATIVE:

“HCSO Warrant Service Unit deputies took Thomas Gary Sweatman…into custody at his residence in the 2000 block of GA 60/Candler Road. Investigators obtained arrest warrants for the following charges in connection with the May 30 search of the residence.

·         Possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute (felony)

·         Possession of THC oil (felony)

·         Possession of a schedule II drug (felony)

·         Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon (felony)

·         Possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime (felony)

·         Possession of marijuana (misdemeanor)

During the search, investigators with the HCSO Special Investigations Unit and Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) seized 9.5 grams of methamphetamine, 1 gram of THC oil, 12 grams of marijuana, 7 oxycodone pills, a handgun and more than $37,000 cash. The total estimated street value of the drugs is $1,200.

Investigators initially arrested Sweatman for the methamphetamine charge on May 30. They obtained the additional warrants later, resulting in Tuesday’s arrest.

Sweatman remains held without bond in the Hall County Jail.”
