*Budget and tax matters are among the items on the agenda for Monday night’s Gainesville Board of Education (GBOE) meeting. The board is scheduled to consider tentative adoption of the FY25 budget and the 2024 tax rate. Also on the agenda is an update on renovations of the old Gym of ’36 building at Washington and Academy streets which will house the school system’s Horizon Academy. Plans for that facility were announced in March. New GHS principal, new use for Gym of ’36 (wgtjradio.com) The board meets at 5:30 at district offices on Oak Street.
*Gainesville’s first Pride in the Park celebration is planned for June 30 at Longwood Park, sponsored by The Rainbow Collective. Such events have been held for years around the country, usually each June. The Gainesville celebration will be held at the park’s Dogwood Pavillion and will feature, in addition to art exhibits and music, free HIV testing and prevention education provided by the District 2 Public Health Department in Gainesville.
