GPD: 2nd arrest in recent murder

Gainesville Police have made a second arrest in connection with the recent murder of a teenager from Gwinnett County.

He’s Quaran Jamir Jackson, 18, of Gainesville. Police obtained warrants on Jackson in connection to the April 27 shooting death of 16-year-old Jaishawn Overstreet. Jackson was arrested at his residence without incident. He is being held in the Hall County Jail on felony murder and felony aggravated assault charges.

The first arrest occurred about two weeks ago.

Police worked on the case with the Hall County Sheriff’s Office, Georgia Department of Corrections, the GBI and the FBI Major Offender’s Task Force.

Ja’quez Jeremiah Marquis Sims, 19, of Gainesville, has been arrested on a murder charge in connection with last month’s shooting death of 16-year-old Jaishawn Overstreet who was shot to death at a Gainesville apartment complex.

Sims was taken into custody after a search warrant was executed at his Swann Drive residence. He is being held at the Hall County Jail on felony malice murder, felony murder and aggravated assault charges.

Overstreet died a couple of days after the shooting which occurred in late April at Ridgecrest Apartments.

Sims graduated from Gainesville High School last year. He was a standout on the school’s football team:
